162.6MWp complex is region’s largest PV project
The Dominican Republic’s vice president Raquel Pena has inaugurated the 162MWp Cotoperi Solar complex in Guaymate, La Romana.
The ceremony was attended by energy minister Joel Santos, Acciona president Jose Manuel Entrecanales, JMMB Dominican Republic executive president Juan Jose Melo and Grupo Pais chief executive Juan Carlos Pais.
Acciona Energia holds a 51% stake in the project, while Cotosolar Holding owns the remaining 49%.
The company said Cotoperi Solar comprises three plants that will generate 286GWh annually and avoid more than 210,000 tonnes of CO?.
It added that construction created more than 600 direct and indirect jobs and that social initiatives have benefited over 3,500 nearby residents.
Acciona Energia said the project is also supporting water and sanitation improvements in Bella Vista and Villa Penca for more than 4,500 people.
The company noted Cotoperi Solar is its second PV project in the Dominican Republic after Calabaza I and that it is building the 82.69MWp Pedro Corto plant with Grupo Pais.
Grupo Pais and JMMB FES said they continue to invest in renewable projects exceeding 710MWp in total.
