Tecnalia upgrade enables complex offshore equipment testing
Tecnalia has connected its HarshLab floating offshore laboratory to BIMEP’s underwater electrical grid.
The centre said the link is enabled by an umbilical cable running to the seabed grid at more than 60 metres’ depth.
It added that the connection allows real testing of mechanical and electrical equipment under extreme marine conditions and continuous data collection.
The HarshLab can also act as a connection point for offshore power generation devices in the Biscay Marine Energy Platform test area.
Tecnalia said it integrates artificial intelligence, numerical models and operational data on board to improve prototype design, efficiency and safety.
It described HarshLab as Europe’s largest floating test laboratory, with an 8.5-metre diameter, 7-metre height and 120m2 deck area.
The facility enables testing of materials, components and equipment in atmospheric, submerged, splash and internal areas and on the seabed at 65 metres.
Tecnalia said grid connection reinforces its position as a benchmark in offshore innovation.
